Junior Art

Most of us encountered art either around us on maybe on the things people bought us such as books, packaging of toys and so on.
As you slowly and for some of us definitely slowly developed your fine motor skills  you may of started to doodle on pieces of paper, done some colouring before doing art in the nursery or infants class usually around the things you know starting say with faces of siblings and so on.
Later on in juniors you'd of had lessons where you might be given a subject to interpret and draw which in my case included drawing things like branches, pussy willow, acorns and flowers that we'd seen in nature study. In my case we went outside to draw them too!
A while ago I did draw some Canada Geese in pencil as I'm a bit of a techophobe when it comes to using tablet and computer software and here is the picture.

Table manners

Some aspects of modern life are hard for me to really  understand such as the need to do everything 'on the go' just where you happen to be.
I like to sit down at a table to read a book or do some serious work because I find it helps to put me in a more serious frame of mind so I become engaged and focused on the task in hand, switching my mind off from any distractions.
It also helps because I cannot easily break off in the way being at on a couch by the tv or cellphone just would.
 I also much prefer to eat at a table with a fork because I cannot balance a plate easily while using my hands to eat plus I get distracted when I eat easy so have accidents spilling stuff on my dress or shorts.

Get Yer Kit on II!

This was something I wrote a few years back which still holds true.

PE kit holds a fascination with me like having a 'proper'  set to wear including things like this PE Polo neck t shirt with a school logo on it.

There is something I find most agreeable about having to wear a pleated green PE skirt with matching gym knickers for games or exercise having been to a co-ed boarding school as well as wearing that combination since.
The freedom of movement over shorts, the sheer femininity whole preserving some modesty are overwhelming.

I find gym knickers very comfortable on me which is why I’m so happy to wear them

Learning past and present

One difference between the kind of education I had and that of many children today centres around how we were taught.
For most of my education for instance generally the teacher led the class learning determining what the days topic was in any given subject. They often would dictate notes or write them down on a chalk board for you to copy to your exercise book sometimes with drawings or diagrams too which was fun if you were not good at writing or spelling things as you'd struggle to keep up.
Sometimes we'd have school made duplicated work sheets for some subjects such as Combined Science to complete as we did experiments with bunsen burners, electricity and magnets.
In History we often read from and makes notes using set text books and all homework (and there was heaps of it!) was to be completed by hand.

This scene would be almost familiar to me in high school as we'd move from old style individual wooden desks to clusters of tables and plastic chairs except for one thing.
That's right, where the girl is sat we'd have our exercise book but she has a laptop which looking at this picture closely is something most of her peers do not suggesting she has 'special needs' and has been given one for 'writing up things' with.
That is something I'd of benefited from personally as my hand writing was poor and spelling pretty rotten too.
A number of schools today have huge screens,  some interactive, for teaching with rather than chalkboards (they were called Blackboards until some edict came down saying that word was racist!) but debate rages as to whither or not this is any more effective from the chalkboard and rote learning we had.

St Trinian's

The out of control schoolgirl is best personified in the classic St. Trinian's series even if the last two installments take us away from the more innocent bad behaviour of the original series and the cartoon strip that inspired them.
This image from the most recent movie shows a more modern uniform than the original gymslips and stockings (for older girls) .
